Demonstration of Modern Archaeological Investigation Techniques

29th March 2026

Allied to the opening of the Reading Room on Sunday 29th March, there will also be a demonstration of modern archaeological investigation techniques. With the kind permission of the Tuftons, a team from the Welwyn Archaeological Society, led by Dr Kris Lockyear, will be present on the ground opposite the Red House, next to number 26. This area had houses on it in the 1700s. Ground penetrating radar, for instance, will be used to build up a picture of what once was here, and people will be encouraged to attend, observe and ask questions.
